On 14 May 2025, QAPCO participated in World Safety Day by organizing an event under the theme “Step Up to Operational Excellence,” attended by representatives from various energy and education sectors, alongside QAPCO’s management team and employees.
The event featured a number of expert speakers from the energy and aviation sectors, who delivered diverse presentations aimed at exchanging knowledge and expertise, highlighting key measures and solutions that contribute to fostering a safe and healthy work environment, and instilling a culture of prevention and adherence to the highest safety standards.
Captain Jim Wetherbee, a NASA Astronaut, shared valuable insights on how to create a culture of operational excellence, drawing on his unique experiences working in high-risk environments and applying safety principles. Captain Fabio De Donno, Senior Manager of Flight Safety at Qatar Airways, discussed the transition from pilot errors to building organizational resilience, emphasizing the importance of learning from mistakes and developing integrated safety systems that support operational continuity and risk reduction.
These presentations were followed by a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Paul Gerardus Vermeiren, QAPCO’s Chief HSEQ Officer, which focused on process safety and explored key opportunities for maintaining the highest safety standards.
Then, Mr. Shakeel Kadri, Executive Director and CEO of the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS), shared his expertise in process safety excellence, highlighting the role of innovation and modern technologies in improving safety standards and reducing industrial accidents. Mr. Jacques Beuckelaers, former General Manager of the Antwerp Platform at TotalEnergies, stressed the critical importance of prioritizing process safety within the operational mindset, drawing on his extensive experience managing complex operations and the need to embed a safety culture at all organizational levels.
The second panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Yousuf Abdulla Rebeeh, QAPCO’s Chief Major Project Officer, focused on safety culture and sustainability strategies.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Mohammed Yousuf Al-Mulla, Managing Director and CEO of QAPCO, who reviewed the key points discussed during the day and reaffirmed the company’s ongoing commitment to safety and operational excellence.
